Down-the-hole hammers do the hard work in rock drilling. A short routine between holes keeps penetration rates high and extends service life.
Between-hole routine
- Flush the hammer with clean air
- Inspect the bit for worn buttons
- Check the retaining ring and chuck
- Re-oil per the lubrication schedule
Lubrication example
# Air-line oiler setting (guide)
rock: hard -> 0.5 L/hour rock drill oil
rock: medium -> 0.3 L/hour
check oiler reservoir every 2 hours of drillingAlways follow the manufacturer's manual for your specific hammer — this is a general guide only.
